A Mother’s Hope Amid Crisis: Nibal and Joya’s Story in Lebanon

Baalbek, Lebanon

In a small, borrowed home in the outskirts of Beirut, nine-year-old Joya clings to memories of her father, her friends, and the bicycle she left behind in Baalbek. “I miss my dad the most because he’s not with us,” she says softly, her eyes glistening with tears. For Joya and her family, the war has taken much more than just their home – it has uprooted their lives and replaced their dreams with a daily struggle for survival.

“I wish the war would end so I could go home,” Joya adds, her small hands clasped tightly as if in prayer.

Joya’s grandmother, Nibal Beaino, sits nearby, reflecting on the night they fled their village of Haouch Tall Safiye. “The strikes came suddenly,” Nibal recalls. “We didn’t expect to be driven from our homes. When the children started crying, and the noise became unbearable, we knew we had to leave.”

Survival Amid Destruction

In Baalbek, the family’s farmland—once lush with tomatoes, cucumbers, and the region’s famous wheat—has been reduced to rubble. “Our agricultural lands are destroyed. We can’t even access them anymore,” Nibal explains. The economic toll has left the family reliant on outside help. Organisations like TBF Trust have stepped in, providing food, supplies, and a glimmer of hope during these dark times.

TBF Trust’s Feeding Support Programme, in partnership with local churches and Christian organisations, has become a lifeline for displaced families like Nibal’s. Through this programme, essential meals are delivered to the most vulnerable, offering not just sustenance but also a message of love and solidarity.

“Each meal reminds us that we are not alone,” Nibal says, holding back tears. “God has been with us every step of the way.”

Faith in the Face of Adversity

Despite losing her home and enduring unimaginable hardships, Nibal’s Christian faith remains unshaken. “I’ve faced many challenges in my life. I lost four children, but I still say, ‘Thank God.’ Every time, He compensates,” she says.

Her faith sustains her in moments of despair. “There’s a Bible verse I hold on to: ‘Do not be afraid, for I am with you.’ It keeps me strong,” she adds.

Dreaming of Peace

For now, Nibal and her family focus on survival. With limited resources, they worry about the future—how they’ll afford necessities, let alone education for the children or medical care. Yet Nibal’s hope for a brighter tomorrow remains steadfast.

“I pray that this war ends soon so we can go back to our homes and live with dignity,” she says. “All I wish for is to stay with my family and for no one else to endure this suffering.”

As Nibal speaks, Joya whispers: “I just want to hug my dad and play with my bicycle again.”

For families like Nibal’s, the road to recovery is long and uncertain. But with the support of organisations like TBF Trust, they find strength and hope.
